MERCANTILE’S WIN FAST JUNIOR GAMES The younger Thistle team played very well against Mercantile in the senior Soccer game on Saturday, Mercantile eventually .Winning by four goals to three. immediately after the kick off Thistle made a determined attack, but were soon on the defensive. Mercantile came close to scoring, but were driven back by the Thistle players, who several times nearly scored, but seemed to’ lack the final effort. On the other hand, Mercantile finished their movements well and it was only the splendid work of the Thistle goal-keeper that prevented them from scoring several times. Eventually, Mercantile made a determined effort amt the scoring was opened by McLean. Immediately after the kick-off Elliott made a good clearance for Thistle, enabling Kaggut to score Thistle’s first goal. The first half ended with the score two goals encli. Mercantile gradually took the game in hand in the second half, but the younger Thistle players stood up well and just before the final whistle were able to score another goal. During this half Mercantile seored two goals and the game finished four goals to three in favour of Mercantile. Junior Matches Jn a game marked by hard play, Old Boys hail some difficulty in defeating Mangapapa by a fairly narrow margin in their junior soccer match on Saturday. Mnngapapa fielded a well-placed team and wore able to break up the combination of Old Boys before they threatened the goal area. Old Boys’ tactics consisted oi sending the bail down the wing and then passing it to the centre forward to score and the wingers, Scott and McKay, were kcjtt very busy. In the second half Mungapapa attacked vigorously and Vincent made a splendid dasli to score Mangapapa’s only goal. A score for Old Boys by Watt just before the close of play made the iinnl score four goals to one in favour of Old Boys. The Kaiti-Cenlral game was a bright and spectacular one between two evenlymatched teams. Taylor, Read aud Jury made determined efforts to reach Haiti's goal, but were prevented time and again by the Haiti defence. Accurate shooting by Stevenson gained the first goal for Oenlrai and in the second half Read scored another goal, the final score being Central two goals, Haiti nil.
