BOMBS ON CHUNKING 300 CASUALTIES CAUSED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 3, 1.30 p.m.) CHUNGKING, June 2. A raid on Chungking by 27 Japanese bombers caused 300 casualties, the highest this year.
The entire consular district was severely bombed. Six bombs fell in the British Embassy compound, damaging the Ambassador's office and the staff quarters. A majority of the staff sheltered in the Ambassador's residence. which was not damaged. The French consulate, French mission and municipal hospital were hit.
