TRAGIC PICTURE

HAVOC IN HAMBURG R.A.F. HEAVY BOMBS' (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 10 a.m. RUGBY, June 2. The German people are having the war brought home to them in Hamburg, Kiel, and Wilhelmshaven, states the Air Ministry news service. In particular, reports of the terrific effect of the latest British bombing are spreading. In Hamburg, one of these new bombs fell into the Steinwerder industrial area. Industrial buildings covering 20,000 square yards were completely demolished. * Over 75,000 square yards there was severe damage from the blast, and at two points more than 1100 ft. apart the effects of the blast were very obvious.

Reports from within Germany describe Hamburg as a tragic picture, and it is said that there is scarcely a district which has not suffered. A photographic reconnaissance of Hamburg has already shown 30 very large industrial buildings completely demolished or very seriously damaged and many others less seriously damaged.
