HELD AMID RUINS
CATHEDRAL SERVICE (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, June 2. The Archbishop Amigo, the 77-year-old Roman Catholic Bishop of Southwark, London, celebrated pontifical high mass in the ruins of St. George's Cathedral, Southwark, yesterday. The cathedral was gutted by fire in a recent air raid and only the shell remains. On a temporary altar which was erected for the service lay a crucifix and six candlesticks which had been saved from the building. A densely-packed congregation stood throughout the service in the devastated building.
