WELL-KNOWN NATIVE
DEATH AT WAIHIRERE There passed away at her residence at Waihirere on Friday a well-known personality among Gisborne Maoris, Pacroa Mihaere, wife of Mr. IT. S. Kerekere. Mrs. Kerekere had been ailing for some time. \ The deceased was a member of the Mahaki sub-tribe, and had tribal affiliations with the Whakatohea, Kahungunu and Apanui, among whom her forebears were notable. She was of influential ancestry, and took her responsibilities as a leading member of the community with much seriousness. She was buried at Parihimanihi cemetery on the day following her death, with appropriate mourning. Ceremonies at the Poho-o-Mahaki were conducted by a representative of the Ringalu Church, and at the graveside by the Rev. W. Mataira, of the Church of England. Mrs. Kerekere is survived by her husband and by one sister, Mrs. t’uteari Kingi, and two brothers, Messrs. Wi Haronga and Ilau Haronga, to whom the sympathy of the native community is exended.
