FIRE PATROLS
SUBURBAN OUTBREAKS AUXILIARY SERVICE An effort to increase the number of available members of the emergency precautions services designated as fire patrols is being launched, and it is hoped to enrol a sufficient number to provide for an efficient voluntary patrol extending from Makaraka to Wainui Beach. The patrols will act principally for the protection of property in the suburban and outer business area in the event of an emergency arising. It is expected that the fire brigade and the emergency fire service personnel, now in active training, will be required to watch property in the business area and deal with outbreaks of fire caused there through physical upheaval or enemy action. The fire patrols wifi act in the outer fringe of the town block and in the suburbs, and will be equipped with portable appliances to deal with incipient blazes,, Training of the patrols will be carried on under the supervision of Superintendent J. W. Kane at the fire station, and members ot the patrol service will receive instruction in handling the various types of firelighting equipment, methods of extinguishing fires of different origins, and the best means of dealing with special fire-raising media such as incendiary bombs.
It is emphasised that membrs of other organisations which would be called out in the event of emergency are not eligible to enrol as fire patrols, and further that, though no medical examination is necessary, the personnel enrolled must be reasonably fit.
