RIDER SUSPENDED
Following the running of the Nothcrton Hack Handicap at Paeroa on Saturday, the judicial committee opened an inquiry concerning interference with Hunto. The outcome was that W. Ensor, rider of Paymaster, was suspended, for a month for careless riding.
MATAWAI SPORTS ANNUAL MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) Despite the cloudy conditions of the early morning, the weather kept fine in Matawai on Saturday for the annual sports. Rain fell at Te Wera and Motu, but held off at Matawai until 4.30 p.m., when two or three events had to be omitted on account of a heavy shower. The judges were: Horse events, Mr. H. Allen, Potutu; chopping, Messrs. R. Fleming, R. Mortleman and A. E. Gibson; children’s events, Mr. E. Ewen: fiat events, Messrs. A. Trafford and A. E. Gibson. The stewards for the horse events were Messrs. A. McTavish and F. Sinton, and the starter Mr. R. C. Beaufoy. Results:— Horse Events.—Flag Race (11 entries): R. Boyd, 1; A. McTavish, 2.
