LITTERED WITH WOOD
BEACH AT WAIKANAE ■ . . T ' 1 REMOVAL PROBLEM The problem of removing driftwood which littered Waikanac Beach was discussed at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council, when it was agreed to make application for Scheme 13 labour to effect the work. Mr. R. Morse stated that the recent heavy rains had brought down large quantities of driftwood, which was now strewn right along the beach. Prior to that the beach was quite clean. The Waikanae Beach Society wished to have the driftwood removed before the bathing season commenced, and hoped that the council would be able to assist in having the debris raked up above high-water mark ready for burning. The council agreed to ask the Social Security Department to provide Scheme 13 labour.
