COSTS OF PROTECTION
SPYING AND SABOTAGE WORK OF BUREAU (Reed. Jan. 11, 10.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 10. Mr. J. Edgar Hoover, giving evidence in support of the granting of £360,000 for the anti-spy and anti-sabotage emergency fund, told the Congress committee that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had .compiled extensive indices (jf all engaged in activities possibly l detrimental to internal security and could, in the event of war, identify individuals and groups immediately.
He added that the bureau was receiving 78,000 sabotage and espionage complaints annually. Plans had been made to protect 450 plants from foreign espionage.
He described the theft and recovery of the plans of an air corps bomber designed in a west coast factory.
