GOERING’S ABSENCE
COMMENT IN GERMANY QUARREL WITH HITLER? LONDON, Dec; 29. Field-Marshal Goering’s almost ostentatious absence from all German Christmas festivities has caused general commem. Herr Hitler and the Commander-in-Chief of the German Army, General von Brauclutsch, the front, and Herr Hess, the Fuehrers deputy, and the Minister ‘ for Propaganda, Dr. Goebbels, made speeches at Christmas functions, while nost of the other Nazis made public.appearances, but Field-Marshal Goenng failed to turn up even at the traditional poor children’s party in Berlin, at which he is generally most prominent.
Some commentators, observing that Field-Marshal Goering is a past-mas-ter at compromise, declare that he is holding aloof from violent discussion?, which, it is believed, are raging between the Reich and the Services concerning Soviet relations, to avoid a personal expression of opinion.
Others declare that, he is in enforced obscurity because of a quarrel with Hitler.
In any case, toe conspicuous absence of the official heir to the German “threne” during an important war-time Christmas is considered most strange, particularly m Germany.
