Snake Helps To Catch Gorilla
Bushman, a gorilla at the Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago, escaped today, but other exhibits were used to drive him back to his cage. Bushman, claimed to be the largest gorilla in captivity, sneaked out while his cage was being cleaned and bit the .arm of a keeper who tried to stop him. The gorilla entered the zoo kitchen and had a wonderful time for two hours, banging pots and pans and tearing down anything that took his fancy. He ignored attempts to lure him out with peanuts and watermelons. A keeper knowing that Bushman disliked aligators, pushed two baby ones through a window. Bushman retreated to his cage, but was out again before the door could be locked. The keeper produced another “secret weapon”—a garter shake, on sighting which Bushman fled cringing to his cage and stayed there.—New York, October 1
