DISPUTE AMONG SWIMMERS OVER EMPIRE GAMES

AUCKLAND, Oct. 2 (P.A.) —A A proposal that a conference be held in Auckland to discuss matters m the dispute, between the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association and the Auckland centre of the Association was adopted at a meeting pl 'the centre tonight. It was decided to invite to the conference Messrs B O’Neill (Christchurch), president and honorary secretary of the association, J C. Kirkland (Invercargill), controller of the swimming at the British Empire Games, and N. N. Oldershaw (Wellington), joint secretary for the swimming at the Empire Games. A letter which the centre agreed should be sent to Messrs O’Neill, Kirkland and Oldershaw says that the centre sincerely desires to restore harmony and to prevent the time of the annual general meeting in Christchurch during Labour weekend being taken up by the dispute; It also has in mind that the repercussions of the dispute have been far wider than the council probably expected. The centre proposes to invite the president of the Otago centre, Mr E. C. Isaacs, a life member of the association, to act as mediator. If he is not acceptable or available, it nominates another life member, Mr C. H. Bryant, formerly of Christchurch but now of Auckland. The centre will pay all expenses, including the cost of air travel, and has voted £125 for the purpose.
