J First round matches in all five grades of the West Coast Basketball Association’s competitions have now' been completed and various teams ' are . sorting themselves out as contenders for championship honours. In the A grade Technical Old Girls are well in the lead with 18 points. In second place is Convent Old Girls A with 12 points. However Cobden A and .Blaketown A are one game behind, i A Narrow Lead i In the second grade Sacred Heart [have a narrow lead over Cobden B. In third place is Rapahoe. In the second round, the match between the first two teams will be watched with interest, as they are both evenly. matched. The result of this match should have a direct bearing on the championship. Rapahoe A, however, cannot be overlooked, as this team is in a position to upset the two leaders.

Kolimoor A, the only team to have no points to its credit has been unlucky. On several occasions it has been beaten narrowly. More can be expected from this team in the second round.

I In the fourth grade there is little between the first three teams. They are all evenly matched, and look likely contenders for the championship. In the fifth grade St. Joseph’s have a two point lead over two teams, Karoro B and Cobden C, which have 16 points each. -St' Joseph’s • have been playing excellent basketball all the season.
