DREDGE AT WORK ON BERTHAGES IN GREY HARBOUR
The dredging of berthages at the Greymouth wharf following the recent flood was commenced yesterday morning by the Harbour Board’s dredge, Mawhera. Some six feet of shingle will have to' be dredged from the whole of No. 1 berth and about five feet from half the No. 2 berth. The dredge was working on a bank of shingle at the lower end of. the timber berth '’today in preparation for the visit of the James Cook which is due early on Thursday to load timber for Sydney and Newcastle. The dredge will be employed for some time on this work.
Soundings taken yesterday showed a depth on the bar of 26ft 6in at high water. This will permit full loading of several vessels expected this week.
