ARGENTINE DEMAND FOR INCREASE IN PRICE OF MEAT
LONDON, September 23 (Rec. 10.30 a.m.). —The British Ambassador to Argentina, Sir John Balfour, will receive instructions at the week-end to resist the Argentine demand for 42 per cent, more for its meat because of the sterling devaluation, says the Evening Standard. The Argentine demand would mean an increase from -Io£d to 15d a lb in the price of Argentine meat to the British housewife.
The Swiss Government today issued a second statement that the Swiss franc will not be devalued. It also announced the immediate withdrawal of all restrictions’against payments from Switzerland in United States dollars.
