BOXING EXCELLENT BOUTS AT TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT
Producing a high standard of boxing, probably higher than that in any other year’ the Greymouth Technical High School' open-air boxing toprnq T ment held yesterday afternoon on the school 'grounds was evidence of the added enthusiasm being shown in boxing at the school. The 13 scheduled bouts all took place and in most cases the bouts were evenly contested, with some boys giving a fine display of fast, snappy punching. Among the most, promising boys were R. Inkster, J. Logan, K. Ross, B. Donaldson, M. Neville, R. Dalgleish, K. R. Rose, and R. Giddens. The bout between Rose and Dalgleish was one of the best of the afternoon, a draw being a fitting decision. _ , . Other good bouts were K. Murdoch v. Inkster, J. Dawson v Logan, J. Gibson v Donaldson, and Ross v Giddens. • The school has produced some tine boxers in the past, including M. Tuck, V. Tuck, H. McClymont (winner of the University title), the late J. Porter and L. Cox, now of Hawke’s Bay. The talent displayed yesterday suggested that the schools’ list of cham-' pions has not ended by a long Mr>W M. Stewart, principal oi tne school, thanked the Greymouth Boxing Association, the police, and the Marist Brothers for their assistance in making the tournament such a suecess. Dawson, 7.2 (Arawa) lost to J. Logan, 6.10 (Taiaroa); J. Hall, 8.1 (Tainui) beat A- Jackson, 8.0 (Taiaroa); C. Jackson, 8.4 (Tainui) lost to G. Patterson, 8.6 (Tainui), E. Smith, 8.7 (Arawa) lost to R. Lark, 8.4 (Tainui); L. Giddens, 9.1 .(Takitimu) lost to K. Ross, 8.12 (Takitimu); J. Gibson, 9.10 (Taiaroa) lost to B. Donaldson, 10.2 (Tainui); J. Dobbin, 9.12 (Takitimu) beat R. Mangos 9.0 (Tainui); R. Dalgleish, 11.7 (Tainui) drew with R. Rose, 12.3 (Taiaroa). T. Nyberg and K. McNaughton for whom no suitable opponents could be found, were declared winners of their respective classes.
