ENGAGEMENT OF DUKE’S BEST MAN RUMOURED
LONDON, Sept. 20 (Rec. 9 a.m.)— Reports are circulating in both London and Washington that the engagement of the 30-year-old Marquess of Milford Haven to Mrs Romaine Simpson, aged 27, of New York will shortly be formally announced. The couple have already had their photograph taken by Baron, the Court photographer, and Baron’s secretary, when asked by the newspapers for copies of the photograph; said they would be released when the engagement became official. The Marquess of Milford Haven was the best man to the Duke of Edinburgh at his wedding to Princess Elizabeth. He is a great-grandson of Queen Victoria. His name was linked last yeaT with that of Princess Margaret and later with .that of Miss Sharman Douglas, daughter of Mr Lewis Douglas, the American Ambassador to London.
Mrs Simpson, who is at present staying at Claridge’s, was divorced at Reno two years ago. ,
