Britain And Red China

LONDON,. Sept. 21 (Rec. 11 a.m.). —Britain has definitely decided to extend de facto recognition to the Chinese Communist Government as soon as it is proclaimed, says Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent. This decision is the outcome of the Foreign Ministers’ discussions on the Far East held in Washington last week. A Hong Kong message says that Mr Mao Tse-tung, the Chinese Communist leader, today announced in Peking the establishment of a “People’s Republic of China.” Mr Mao made the announcement before the opening session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

“Internationally we must unite with all countries: and peoples loving peace and freedom, first of all the Soviet Union and the new democratic countries, so that we, will not stand alone in the struggle to safeguard the fruits* of victory,” Mr Mao said. Mr Mao added that there was decidedly no room for compromise “to overthrow those enemies or be slaughtered or oppressed by them.”
