First Radio Contacts
GISBORNE, This Day (P.A.),—A claim that Otago radio transmitters in Seotember and October, 1924, established the first radio contacts between New Zealand and the United States, Argentina, England and France is challenged on • the ground that Mr Ivan O’Meara, of Gisborne, held a two-way conversation with Carlos Braggio, of Buenos Aires, in May 1923. This exploit was recognised by the award to Mr O’Meara by the Christchurch Radio Society of a silver cup, commemorating the original twoway trans-Pacific communication.
