N.Z. Maori League Team
The selectors, Messrs E. K. Asher (Auckland), R. Brown (North Auckland), and E. Tukere (South Auckland), have chosen the following New Zealand Maori Rugby League team to play Australia at New Plymouth on September 28: —Full-back, R. Martin (Waikato); three-quarters, A. Berrymail (Waikato), R. Hohaia (Wellington) , C. Masters (Auckland); fiveeighths, R. Hohua (Bay of Plenty), S. Toka (Waikato); half-back, O. Stewart (Auckland); back row, R. Rogers (Auckland); second row, J. Wright (Auckland), R. Paratene (Auckland); front row, G. Hohaia (Wellington), R. Bolton (Wellington), R. Ewe (Auckland) . Reserves.—Forward, F. Williams (Waikato); backs, R. McCullough (Taranaki)(P.A.) Borrowed Boots Tom Webster, the former Southland Rugbv full-back, and his boots may be blamed for Southland’s defeat by Australia on Saturday. At the invitation of Mr W. Cerutti, one of the managers of the Australian team, Webster gave R. Cawsey, the Australian full-back, some tuition in the art of goal-kicking. It was badly needed because in the absence through injury of Brian Piper, not one goal had been kicked in about 15 attempts in two games ‘before Australia. played Southland. Webster did more. He lent Cawsey his boots. Cawsey converted all three tries for Australia on Saturday. He will again have the use of Webster’s boots in the test match against New Zealand at-Auck-land on Saturday.—(P.A.)
