Latest Fashions Displayed In Mannequin Parade

A colourful and exclusively-styled .1949 display of fashions was presented to a large audience at the Regent Theatre last night when 10 models took part in a mannequin parade of the newest trends in frocks, suits, coats .evening wear, sports wear and lingerie. After opening with a gay selection of sports wear, featuring the newest “Mabs of Hollywood” bathing costumes, brightly patterned strapless sun frocks, tailored slacks, \ sports frocks and suits, the models presented the season’s highlights of day and evening wear. A selection of lingerie, featured beautiful silk sets with unusual lace borders and appliqued with scalloped embroidery. Negligee and nightgowns of shimmering satin, bridal blue celanese and chiffon, trimmed with Alecon lace, were included and the display ended with a lovely bridal tableau.

The mannequins who took part in the parade were Misses Monica Sinnot, Lou Henderson, Pat Mooney, Bev.erly Poole, Colleen O’Neill, Doris Hitchcock, Dorothy McArthur, Mrs Vilma Hodgkinson, Mrs Win and Mrs Matheson.

Outstanding Fashions Among the * outstanding fashions were the following:— A most attractive harlequin check frock square neckline and lovely full skirt. A buttons-and-bows hat of red straw was certainly a striking finishing touch. A Paris vgreen frock with multifloral stripe. The square neckline and brief sleeves offset the fully pleated skirt. The wine picture straw hat was trimmed with silk velvet, and the. mannequin wore winecoloured accessories.

Cocoa brown silk frock with brown suede shoes. The bodice featuring deep fold tucks and the latest swing panel skirt. The novel five-" Skin sable fitch and smart hat, completed a charming outfit.

Super-tailored coat with large style pockets, with the mannequin wearing brown toe-peeper shoes. Attention was given to the roll pleats in the full skirt, and the brown piping outlined the reveres and pockets. The Dutch bonnet was of brown felt. An eros yellow spring coat. The mannequin wore new ankle-strap style shoes which crossed over the instep. The coat was Princess style, with front ties. A matching felt hat had a crinoline butterfly bow. A suit of cream boucle. The coat was close fitted and the narrow panels of the skirt broke into fullness at the knees to complete the mermaid silhouette. A dainty cream blouse and off-the-face felt with brown corded trim, completed a lovely outfit. Casual suit in soft dove grey, with the mannequin wearing grey suede shoes. This suit was styled with a neat jacket and skirt fullness. The dainty pink blouse and matching felt trimmed with pink feather osprey and tulle, completed a neat outfit. Jacket of pine green broadcloth, with nipped waist, offsetting a plaid skirt. The back fullness in the skirt was a special feature. The mannequin’s mustard felt hat was the new Robin Hood style and she was wearing tan accessories. Jacket of silver grey coney with detachable hood. Matching royal blue toe-peepers were worn. The dinner gown of crepe had a cascading, draped skirt and a magnificent bertha collar of brocaided lame. A smart dinner gown of turquoise crepe with crystal-bead and goldbraid trimming. Gold kid and black suede wedgie shoes were worn. Very attractive was the heart-shaped neckline. This gown was gathered softly at the hip to form a full flowing skirt. Wedding Scene For the bridal scene, the bride was Miss Monica Sinnott, and the bridesmaids, Mrs Vilma Hodgkinson and Miss Dorothy McArthur. Mrs Matheson was the bride’s mother and the other mannequins, the guests. The bridal bouquets were created by Buchanan’s. The bride wore a gown of ivory slipper satin styled on Empire lines. • Hand embroidered crystal beads formed a delicate leaf design on the neckline and bodice. Appliqued satin flowers ornamented the train while the fine tulle veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. The bride’s attendants were frocked alike in lovely gowns of maize net, made with off-the-shoulder necklines, puff sleeves, and softly billowing frilled skirts. Hand made flowers adorned the bodices and skirts. The picturesque gowns were completed by haloes of tulle, adorned with violets. All the fashions displayed were from the stocks of Messrs Truman’s Ltd. The shoes were by Steel’s Ltd. and the jewellery was supplied by H. Lamont and .Son. The parade will be presented again this evening and tomorrow evening.
