OBITUARY Mr Francis Roberts

The death occurred late last evening after a lengthy illness of Mr Francis Roberts, of Preston road, Greymouth. Born at Dobson 63 years ago, he came as a young man to reside in Greymouth, taking employment at the New Zealand Railways workshops. Mr Roberts was a train examiner for several years before he retired owing to ill-health four years ago. He is survived by his wife,' Mrs Myrtle Roberts, one son, Frank, two daughters, Miss Beryl Roberts (Greymouth) and Mrs q’ Carroll (Christchurch), and two brothers, Daniel (Greymouth), and George (Christchurch). The . funeral will take place at the Karoro cemetery on Sunday afternoon following a service at the Salvation Army Citadel. Mr Walter Jones The death occurred at Palmerston North on Wednesday, following a short illness, of Mr Walter Thomas Jones, aged 60 years. Born at Kumara, Mr Jones was a son of the late Mr and Mrs T. Jones who were well-known early residents of the township. He was educated at the Kumara school and later joined the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, serving at Kumara and Westport. On his return from active service in the 1914-18 war he took up farming at Palmerston North. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons. Mr A. H. Jones, of Greymouth, who is at present on holiday in Australia, is a brother. The funeral of Mr Kevin Anthony Rea took place at the Karoro cemetery this morning. Requiem Mass at St Patrick's Church was celebrated by the Rev. Father T. Farrell. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor J. Long and Rev. Father A. Kennedy were in the sanctuary. Members of the Celtic Rugby Football Club foi med a guard of honour as the casket, which' was draped with the Union Jack, left the_ church. The services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Father T. Daly, assisted by the Rev. Fathers W. O’Mahoney and A. Kennedy. At the conclusion of the SE.kv.lce members of the Greymouth R.S.A. placed poppies in the grave and 3ugler V. McHerron sounded Last Post. _ The funeral of Mrs Tipare Meihana, of Blaketown. took place at the Karoro cemetery this afternoon. The Rev. K G. Aubrev conducted the services at the Holy Trinity Church and at the graveside.
