UNION MEETING TO CONSIDER DOCTOR’S CASE PROPOSED

The Buller Hospital Board at its monthly meeting yesterday received a letter from the Millerton Medical Association - asking that, failing a settlement of the case of the Medical Superintendent (Dr D. R. Ryder) for increased. grading, the Board should convene a special meeting of all unions,- associations and local bodies in the district to consider the position, The Board decided, however, to defer the matter until the return of Mr W. H. Mclntyre M.L.C. from Wellington with information on the matter. A development which should have the effect of relieving the position in the maintenance of medical services in the mining areas was the advice by the Department of Health that approval had been given to the appointment of a special house surgeon to the Buller Hospital to be used in relieving in country districts. On Dr Ryder’s recommendation the Board decided to advertise immediately for the house surgeon.
