MAORI CHARGED WITH SHOOTING AT HOUSE
WHANGAREI, This Day (P.A.).— A man, after allegedly firing several ■shots at a house at Towai yesterday, being armed with a repeating rifle, disappeared in the bush afterwards. Later, he came out of the bush and surrendered at another house and gave up his rifle. There, he was arrested by the Police who had been searching for him in the bush. This morning W’irihana Wineata Potaka, aged 38, a railway surfaceman, was charged in the Whangarei Court with attempting to do grievous bodily harm by discharging a rifle. He was remanded for a week.in custody. • It is alleged that, wishing to see his wife Ma, he went to the home of her parents at Towai, and when she refused to see him he fired several shots from a .22 calibre repeating rifle towards the house. He then disappeared in the bush.
