SPANISH SEAMAN TO BE DEPORTED
WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.).— A Spanish seaman, Jesus . Franco Gimenez, aged 23, told Mr J. S. Hanna S.M. in the Magistrate’s Court today that he had left his ship because of a “dangerous” officer and because a friend had told him that he could become a New Zealand citizen by deserting and then getting probation from the court.
Gimenez was charged with landing in New Zealand without a permit, he being a prohibited immigrant. The Magistrate said he had no option but to order Gimenez to be deported and be held in prison until deportation could be carried out.
