ACCIDENTS IN GREY DISTRICT MINES
Injuries to the right hand, including severe lacerations of the little finger, were suffered by James Howell, aged 30; of 29 Byron street, Greymouth, in an accident at the Strongman State mine this afternoon. His hand was jammed between a coal box and the rail and after attention at the mine he was admitted to the Grey Hospital. John Cherry, aged 64 years, a widower, of Taylorville, was seriously injured in the Wallsend mine on Friday. He was jammed between a coal box and the wall of the drive and his chest was crushed. He was admitted to the Grey Hospital and his condition today was described as satis f a ct o ry.
