HOUSE RANSACKED WHILE OWNER AWAY AT PICTURES

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 25. Obscene drawings and writings in lipstick defaced the wallpaper in every room and there was chaos everywhere when Mr Simon Levin, Williamson avenue, Grey Lynn, gothome from the pictures’on Saturday evening. The damage is estimated at £l5O. A window at the back of the house had been forced.

Tea, flour, cornflour, sugar, and other articles were strewn on the floor Af the kitchen. Eggs had been thrown against the walls of the bedrooms. Clothing from cupboards and drawers was strewn in confusion on the floor. Quilts from the beds had been tossed on the floor and spirits had been poured over them. Valves from two radios had been taken out and smashed. Tans in the bathroom and kitchen had been turned on, but Mr Levin said he had arrived 'in time to turn them off in the bathroom before the water overflowed on to the floor. In the kitchen the water had not overflowed sufficiently to do much damage before the taps were turned off. Mr Levin said it was difficult to imagine any reason for what had been done. Although the house had been ransacked, little of value had been stolen. Even the contents of a case of 50 cigarettes had been thrown on the floor and left. Mr Levin said the greatest cost would be in repapering the house. It would be impossible to remove the writings from the paper. „
