SAN DOMENICO IS BEATEN IN MUD AT FLEMINGTON
MELBOURNE, March 13. On a rain-affected track at Flemington, an outsider, Reperio, beat San Domenico in the Newmarket Handicap A three-year-old, carrying 9.0 on a holding track, San Domenico is considered to have run the race ot his life. He is now being saved for the Doomben £lO,OOO. x San Domenico went to the from early to choose a position on the sodden track and was clearly in the lead at two furlongs. Reperio was well back at this stage, but started a run which brought him into a good posi-, tion with only a furlong to go. San Domenico fought back gamely and until the last 50 yards looked like holding his lead. Reperio was just too good. The favourite, St Razzle, was never prominent. The New Zealand horse. Peter Robinson, ploughed through the heavy going to finish ninth. The favourite. Lady Pirouette, ran unplaced in the Sires’ Produce Stakes which was won by the Kia Ora bred Iron Duke, a brother to Caruso.
