Success Of N.Z. Speedboat
The New Zealand challenger, Redhead, with Len Southward at the wheel, outclassed six of the fastest speedboats in New South Wales, to win the Australian unlimited speedboat championship and Griffith Cup, at Kangaroo Point, George’s river. Redhead took the title in two straight heats by a big margin each time. Her average speed of £•3 miles an hour was the fastest ever recorded in the race, the previous best being 50 miles an hour, put up by Wasp last year. The best lap average by the New Zealander of 56 miles an hour was also ahead of any speed recorded previously m the race. Southward, who intends to remain in Australia for another three • weeks, has made application to the Australian Boat Association for permission to attack the. Australian flyjng mile record of 82.6 miles anhour, established by Sunray two or three ytars ago.—Sydney, February 27.
