Lyttelton Watersiders Oppose Conscription
(P A ) CHRISTCHURCH, October 15. The Lyttelton Branch of the New Vealand Watersiders’ Union, at its monthly stop-work meeting , opposed the “principle of conscription m peacetime 1 as being dangerous to the industrial movement generally, and m the atomic age, completely redunda from a defence point of view The meeting suggested that a national conference of the Federation of Labour should be held as soon as possible to discuss fully all matters relating to the defence of New Zealand. Another suggestion was the holding ol a meeting of all those opposed to conscription. .
