WORK TO START ON NEW STATEHOUSING AREA IN GREYMOUTH
- Work under the State housing programme in Greymouth will be concentrated oh- the Marlborough street area next year when a start will be made with . the first comprehensive State housing- block in Greymouth itself. Tenders are being called now for the first units to be byilt in this block.'
Ten State houses have been completed at. Cobden during the past two months, two being made available for allocation in September,, and it is expected that a further six will be finished early in November. A number of other uriits will be ready by next February or- March under new contracts.
Apart from these units, only three more house sites remain in the present Holland Settlement block and arrangements are being made for these to be built upon. Unless a further area is acquired in Cobden, early next year will see the end of the development of the State housing project in Cobden where the State housing scheme was first launched on the West Coast.
