Helped To Escape From A Blazing Building
(P.A.) GISBORNE, This Day. Partially overcome by smoke and unable to reach the main exits, Dr Harold Weeks was helped ta safety by his daughter Betty last night, when fire completely destroyed their two-storey home at Tolaga Bay. The firs started from the explosion of a kerosene stove and quickly enveloped the whole building. Dr Weeks narrowly escaped serious injuries when he re-entered the house to attempt to save some possessions. His daughter broke a window and assisted her father outside. Both were scorched by the heat. The losses included all the contents, medical equipment and books. A bucket-brigade succeeded in saving a detached building, which also caught fire.
