Salary Rise Refused
ROME, October 7. The Italian Chamber of Deputies, by 255 votes to 98, rejected a Left Wingmotion for an immediate salary increase of 53s a month for State employees. The Prime Minister (Mr de Gasperi) said that Italy could not face the enormous cost which the increase would entail without imperilling the stability of the lira.
