BOXING TOURNAMENT AT WESTPORT
Amateur boxers from Christchurch, Greymouth and Westport took part in a successful tournament conducted by the Westport Boxing Association on Saturday night. ? Most of the bouts were of four twominute rounds, and some bright boxing was provided for a large attendance. In the results the following abbreviations are used.: —P (Police Youth Club); B (Brunner); G (Greymouth); W (Westport); C (Christchurch). p. Neame (P) 7.0 beat C. Scott (C) 6.6. T. Shaw (C) 7.11 W to V. McGeady (G) 7.10. J. O’Brien (C) lost to C. O'Brien (P) 8.3. Underhay (C) 8.12 beat Griffiths (New Brighton) 8.2. Woolhouse B) 7.11 lost to V. Kell (C) 7.6. J. King (P) 10.5 beat R. Barber (G) 10.0. J. Henderson (Denniston) and P. Kempton (P), midgets, drew. Ellery (C) 10.6 lost to D. Kitto (P) 10.1. J. McMahon (C) 11.3 lost to L. O’Brien (G) 10.11. Butterfield (C) 10.10 was knocked out by M. Tuck (G) 10.7 in the fourth round, of an excellent hard-hitting bout. • • V. Tuck (G) 9.1 and T. Hawes (W) 9.7 drew. N. Britt (C) 9.12 and Marini (P) 9.6 drew. An exhibition bout was staged between B. Shaw (C) 9.10 and J. Porter (P) 9.0. The referees were Messrs H. Hawes, L. Hawes and L. O’Neil.
