Report About Dates
The attention of Customs Department and Health Department district offices had been directed to the re= port-’ about dates for New Zealand handled recently at Sydney in order to safeguard against the importation of dates or other contaminated foodstuffs, said the Minister of Health (Miss M. B. Howard), replying to Mr F Langstone (Government, Roskill) in the House of Representatives last evening. Mr Langstone had drawn tfie Minister’s attention to a Sydney message that thousands of bags of “stinking, rat-infested dates were beins* unloaded on a Sydney wharf from a British-India ship before shipment to New Zealand for use in the manufacture of chutney and liqueurs.— t(P.A.)
