NEW CHIEF OF THE AMERICAN NAVY.
(Rec. 2 p.m.) WASHINGTON, November 13. President Truman today appointed Admiral Louis E. Denfield as Chief of Naval Operations in succession to Admiral Chester Nimitz, who is retiring shortly. Admiral Denfield is now commanding the United States Pacific Fleet and recently visited Australia to discuss the future of the American naval bases in the South-west Pacific.
