(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Workers engaged in building bridges are general labourers and not builders’ labourers. This decision was made by the Arbitration Court today when asked for an interpretation of the labourers’ award. The point argued was whether workers employed by the Tapper Construction Limited, on the construction of a concrete bridge at Pakaraka should be paid as builders’ labourers and not as general labourers. After argument on the interpretation of the word “building” Mr Justice Tyndall said: “We say we build bridges, roads, tram-cars and motor bodies, but it is not common usage to describe these as buildings.
