.The General Post Office, Wellington, advises that test photographs received last evening from the United Kingdom showed very good quality. The test transmission, via the automatic relay station at Colombo, gave a photo copy which on radio photo standards was exceptionally good. The second test, via Melbourne, while quite good, was slightly inferior to the first.—(P.A.) Income Tax Evasion

In Timaru Magistrate’s Court yesterday the Regent Milk Bar Ltd., was charged on four counts of wilfully furnishing false returns of income in 1944, 1945, 1946 and 1947. The defendant firm pleaded guilty on each charge. It was fined £5O. The magistrate, said: “Today the Income Tax Department is better equipped and better staffed. It has ways and means of finding things out. Every taxpayer who has no opportunity to carry out any tax evasions will be happy to know this.”—-(P.A.) Malted Milk Production

A suggestion that the large-scale production of malted milk be undertaken in New Zealand was brieflydiscussed in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, but members agreed that such an undertaking at present would 'disrupt primary industry too greatly. Further research into the proposals was recommended. The discussion arose when the Industries and Commerce Committee reported on the petition of L. C. Walker, of Christchurch, Avho asked that he be heard by a committee of the House on hjs proposal that malted milk be manufactured for export.— (P.A.) ,
