HARBOUR BOARDS TO SEEK POWER TO RAISE DUES

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The wage increases to harbour board employees in the new award, plus the further increases given, in the Arbitration Court recently, would result in the boards’ applying to the Price Tribunal for permission to raise their dues, said Mr W. H. Price, president of the Harbour Boards’ Association, at the annual conference in Christchurch this morning. Some boards were already preparing their applications and others would act through the association. He said the proposal to delete the special representation on the boards and reduce their membership accordingly had been carefully watched, as with the elections on November 19 it was a matter of some importance.

Government members of the harbour boards ceased to be members from October 26, but this weeks’ Gazette would contain a notice extending the terms to the date of the local body elections, November 19, said the Secretary of Marine, Mr W. L. Smith, at the conference.
