New Zealanders Have Become “Rather Tame”
(P.A.) . AUCKLAND, This Day. The people of New Zealand seemed to have become "rather tame after 12 years of paternalistic government,” said Mr Randolph Churchill, giving his’ impressions of his New Zealand tour today.' He did not ' notice the rugged, individualistic pioneering instinct which had distinguished this country’s earlier founders, he stated. It was a'pity there were not more people here. Concerning the attacks made on him here, Mr Churchill said*: “They don’t worry me very miich. ,1 have enjoyed my stay in New Zealand exceedingly.” He said he was still waiting for the national secretary of the Waterside Workers’ Union, Mr T. Hill, to tell him any port in the world which had a slower turnround than Auckland. Referring to the “frightful housing shortage,” Mr Churchill said it was sirapge that human beings were clever enough to make the /atom bomb but not clever enough to build enough houses.
