LITTLE TROUBLE EXPECTED FROM JEWISH MIGRANTS
(Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 1. Major Sam Ellis, commanding the escort troops in the Ocean Vigour carrying illegal immigrants to Hamburg, stated that during mass meetings in the ship’s hold the majority of the immigrants swore they would not fight the British troops at Hamburg. “At the worst, I don’t expect more than a token sit-down strike,” said Major Ellis. The whole fleet, including the Royal Navy escort ships, hove to for a half-hour today while a 10-hours old baby, who died in the Ocean Vigour, was buried at sea in a tiny coffin made from army ration boxes.
