MODERATE LABOUR AND EMPLOYERS: CLOSER RELATIONS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Closer relationship between the moderate Labour section and the employers’ group was evident at the International Labour Office conference at Geneva, said Mr W. J. Mountjoy, secretary of the Wellington Employers’ Association,, who returned in. the Athenic today after representing New Zealand employers at the conference. The decisions reached might be classed as liberal and largely in accord with the general principles of true democracy. Pie stated that they did not infringe the rights of private enterprise. After reviewing world shortages, Mr Mountjoy said all should fully realise it was an individual responsibility, as well as that of the State, that every ounce of energy should be utilised to the full. It was pleasing to find that New Zealand was considered by the representatives of other countries as a country of advancement and one that had legislated for fair working conditions for its people. The next conference would be held at San Francisco and he was convinced that New Zealand should be more strongly represented, not only to safeguard her own interests but also the principle of private enterprise.
