Decline Of British Working Population
(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 12. Britain’s total working population continues to decline. The Ministry of Labour's monthly man-power report shows that the total at the end cf June was 14,412,000 compared with 14,420,000 in May, 14,445,000 in March, 14,481,000 at the end of 1946, and 14,881,000 in mid-1945. The Ministry points out, however, that the total working population at the end of June was 407,000 greater than in mid--1939. The number of insured persons registered as unemployed was 260,000 in June, compared with 560,000 in March, and 103,000 in mid-1945. The report shows that the total of men and women in the forces, police and ancillary services in June was 1,227,000, compared with 4,653,000 in 1945.
