DISTRICT DOCTORS TO VISIT THE GREY HOSPITAL

On special conditions set out by the. medical superintendent (Dr S. Barclay) in a letter to the board all medical men practising in the Grey district were appointed last evening by the Grey Hospital Board as consultant visiting staff for 12 months at an honorarium of £5O. The terms of the appointment were circulated to members but were not read at the open meeting of the board. Mr A. Mosley said that the idea was that the district doctors would be available in a consulting capacity and to give assistance under the direction and supervision of the medical superintendent and the medical staff. He (Mr Mosley) thought that the outside medical men would be of inestimable assistance to the medical staff of the hospital who, it was well known to members, were working under pressure at all times, and to the patients. The circumstances were different now from the "time when the board had found it necessary to exclude outside doctors. Mr H. G. Carter also spoke in favour of the scheme. Very stringent conditions had been drawn up and he did not- think there would be a repetition of the circumstances Which caused the board to exclude outside doctors in the past. Now the district doctors seemed to be working well together. Mr Mosley said he thought it was the medical superintendent’s recommendation that the scheme be given a trial for a year. It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Mosley and Carter that the scheme be put into operation for 12 months. There were no dissentients.
