“DEMOCRATIC SUFFOCATION ATMOSPHERE” . (Rec. 11.45 a.m.) ROME, Feb. 11. Count Sforza broadcast the text of the Government’s Note to 20 nations protesting against the peace treaty. The Note stated that the Government would “lack honour if it did not record that the treaty made worse tnat atmosphere of democratic suffocation which has weighed so tragically over the Italian people.” Count Sforza added: “We may well adfnit to innumerable past errors, but the expiation of the Italian people has been so hard that we may all look forward as Italians and world citizens to a revision of what might paralyse or poison the life of the 45,000,000 on soil which cannot possibly nourish them.”
