THE TEN-YEAR PLAN

PROGRESS LEAGUE CRITICISES DELAY REQUEST TO MR. SEMPLE “Other districts may have their 10-year plans completed before the Westland plan arrives,’’ said the president of the Westland District Progress League (Mr W. D. Taylor) at last evening’s meeting of the council of the league. Two letters from the Minister of Works (Mr Semple) on the subject were read at . the meeting. The first letter, dated December 2, stated that the plan for Buller and Westland was completed and would have been announced but’ for the election campaign. Mr Semple said that regional planning was non-political and, as the Government wished to prevent political motives being attributed to the announcement of the plans, it.had been decided to defer the announcement until after the election. In a second letter dated December 16 Mr Semple said that he expected the plan would be announced early in the New Year and said that the Lake Arthur scenic route proposal had been included in the scheme lor investigation. Criticism of the delay was expressed by members and it was decided to point out to the Minister that he had stated two pionths ago that the plan was completed and to ask for it to be made available immediately.
