COMMUNIST GAINS
HEAVY FIGHTING IN CHINA f (Rec. 2.30 p.m.) PEKING, Dec. 4. Communist forces, in sweeping new gains in North China, are reported to be moving swiftly on Yangku, capital of. the Shansi province, and Fenyang, 60 miles south. The position of the Manchurian capital, Changchun, has become more precarious. Following the Communists’ assaults 30 miles to the north and east, large. Communist concentrations were reported east of Changchun. The Communists withdrawing southward on the Kwantung peninsula are now reported to be 17 to 20 miles from Dairen. A Govenment report says the Communists are sending reinforcements into the attack on Paoting, capital of Hopei province. Heavy fighting, is occurring 23 miles north and the same distance south of- the city.
