OBITUARY Mr. John Montgomery

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 20. The death occurred yesterday at Christchurch, following a snort illness, •of Mr. John Montgomery, chairman of directors of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd., proprietor of the seed merchant and exporting firm of J. Montgomery and Company, and a farmer of longstanding on the Port Hills, Little River, and Eiffelton. Born in Christchurch in 1874, he was the second son of the Hon. William Montgomery, who settled in Canterbury in 1860. He was also chairman of the engineering firm of Andersons, Ltd. As a sportsman, he represented Canterbury at Association football, was a past president ol the Christchurch Golf Club and took a keen interest in fishing, shooting and hunting. He was president of the Christchurch branch of the League for the Hard of Hearing. Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife, one daughter and two sons. Colonel John Findlay (P.A.) ASHBURTON, Sept. 20. The death occurred early this morning of Colonel John Findlay, C. 8., D. 5.0., who had a long and distinguished military career beginning in the South African War. At one stage during the Great War he commanded the New Zealand Mounted Forces in Palestine and Egypt. After the war Colonel Findlay took over a farm at Eiffelton. His wife died many years ago, and he is survived by two daughters.
