MR. FRASER ANXIOUS

ELECTION ADDRESS TO SUPPORTERS “A HARD FIGHT AHEAD” (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Warnings that the Labour Government had a hard fight in front of it, and that the Opposition must not be underrated, were given by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), when addressing a large meeting of supporters last night. Mr. Fraser, who was speaking for the first time in the new Brooklyn electorate, said the electorate was going to be the centre of the election fight throughout New Zealand. . , “In many ways this is going to be the key electorate,” he added. It depends on the fight that we put up here what the results will be throughout the country.” November 27 was an historic day, as on. that day in 1935 the people of the country' had got rid of “the terrible, cruel blight of Toryism.” He hoped they had got rid of it for ever. “The misrepresentation factory the lie factory—will be working overtime,” he added. It would be said that he and Mr, Nash had become Communists, but that would be mild compared with''what would be said before the election was oyer. The fight would be hard and difficult. It was not simply a fight of parties, but between systems, and whether they should trample each other down in Inad competition. Labour pledged to use all the resources of the country to make possible the present standard of living and security. The Opposition did not believe m that they called it Socialism and were not prepared to use those methods. Young people should be made to realise that Social Security had not rained down from Heaven. It was administered by the Labour Government and couia be swept into oblivion by an antiLabour Government. The Social Security fabric could not endure unless the country was working hard ana producing in abundance. The campaign would be the nnai battle with Toryism. It was said that Labour would destroy private enterprise, but that was nonsense. Laboui would take out the worst features of capitalism in. the country. Then, would be steps in nationalisation, such as of the coal mines. The meeting carried a resolution of confidence in the Government and in the leadership of the Prime Mi ister. LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR HAURAKI (PA) WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Mr. John William Neate has been selected as official Labour for the Hauraki seat.
