MAIL SERVICE TO KUMARA UNSATISFACTORY

Arising out of complaints by members that the mail service from Hokitika to Kumara Junction was extremely unsatisfactory, in that letters took days to arrive, although the places were only 14 miles apart, the Hokitika Businessmen’s Association, at _ its annual meeting, decided to interview the postmaster on the matter. It was also decided to. seek information regarding the closing times for mails and the clearing of boxes. The chairman, Mr. W. H. Mountaineering Club Meets On Tuesday evening the Westland branch of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club met in the Methodist' Hall for its monthly meeting. The attendance was small. A series of over 100 photo-slides was shown, covering a trip in high country from the Wilberforce up Unknown river, over Unknown Col, Mathias Pass and Frew’s Saddle down to the Whitcombe river, and thence to the Hokitika river. .. The slides were fine examples of alpine photography and, although parts of the route were unfamiliar to the audience, the display provided an interesting change.
